Gabe Darling’s Southern Fried Storytime and Country Jam

A Feminist Fag Fiction Performance

May 2020

Gabe Darling is an artistic sound practice of resistance and storytelling. Using a feminist methodology of vulnerable affective writing as a framework for short story fiction, Gabe distorts and entangles realities, often leaving the audience wondering what is truth and what is dramatized. The stories and songs illustrate experiences of growing up queer in the Southern United States, presented by a charming and cheeky character who is claiming space in a musical and cultural genre in which queer stories and proof of existence have intentionally and forcefully been excluded. Gabe then uses this platform to educate, encourage empathy, and tickle funny bones.
